Hannaford Weekly Ad – Hannaford is a supermarket chain based in Scarborough, Maine. Founded in Portland, Maine, in 1883, Hannaford operates stores in New England and upstate New York. The chain is now part of the Ahold group Delhaize based in the Netherlands. Hannaford was founded in 1883 by Arthur Hannaford as a small produce shop along the waterfront Portland, Maine. He was joined in 1902 by his brothers, Howard and Edward, and they include Hannaford Bros. Co. By 1920 the company became a leading wholesale produce in northern New England.
Hannaford then moved into a new Hannaford Weekly Ad building in Cross Street. In 1939, with the acquisition of supermarkets Tondreau Inc., sponsor of Red & White stores in Maine, Hannaford expanded food wholesale business. In late 1944, Hannaford Co. open its first outlet retail under a partnership agreement with ADJUTOR Tondreau capital.
