The chain opened its first supermarket in the capital of New York City in 1932 and changed its name from the Central Market to Chopper Price in 1973. It is owned by the Golub Corporation and is headed by Neil and Jerry Golub, the third and fourth generation who heads the company. On June 2, 2010, the Chopper Prize cost its new headquarters in Nott Street, downtown Schenectady.
