Shaw’s and Star Market grocery store two American chains based in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, employing about 30,000 associates in 154 stores. One hundred Shaws Weekly Ad and thirty two stores are operated under the banner of Shaw in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont, and Star Market operates 22 stores in Massachusetts. By 2010, Shaw operated stores in all six New England states and as of 2011 has remained Shaw’s only supermarket chain with stores in five of six after it sold its operations Connecticut. biggest competitors are chain Hannaford, Market Basket, Roche Bros. and Stop & Shop. Star Market is a store for Shaw’s companion; Shaw’s buying competitive chain in 1999.

Shaw’s and Star Market are wholly owned subsidiaries of Albertsons Boise, Idaho-based. The combined chain has the largest base of stores operating in New England, but is the third largest after Quincy, Massachusetts-based Stop & Shop and Scarborough, Maine-based Hannaford Brothers Company; Hannaford operates stores in New York, while operations Stop & Shop’s lies in New Jersey; Shaw’s only doing business only in New England. Since July 5, 2013, Shaw’s and Star Market use more loyalty cards in their stores as a way to compete with other local stores that do not have them.
